CEO

Darren Byrne has built an impressive career spanning more than 20 years in the tourism sector. As CEO of the Abbey Group, he leads with a forward-thinking approach, driving innovation and growth across the company’s portfolio. Previously Finance Director, Darren’s expertise in financial strategy and operational performance shaped the Group’s success and stability. Today, he champions sustainability as a core priority, guiding Abbey Group toward ambitious environmental goals, including Gold Certification from the Sustainable Tourism Network. His leadership reflects a commitment to responsible tourism and long-term impact. Outside of work, Darren enjoys exploring Ireland’s natural landscapes and cultural heritage, often finding inspiration in the country’s scenic beauty.

John Healy
Managing Director - Moloney & Kelly, Abbey Conferences and Abbey Events

John has built a distinguished career in tourism, bringing over 25 years of leadership experience to his role as Managing Director. He oversees Abbey Group’s MICE division while also driving growth in luxury leisure sales. Known for his strategic insight and commitment to excellence, John ensures clients receive exceptional experiences tailored to their needs. A proud Kilkenny native, John loves sharing insider tips on the best places to explore in his home county. Outside of work, he enjoys Ireland’s rich culture and heritage, embracing the traditions that make the country unique.

Vanessa Castles
Managing Director - Ireland

Vanessa Castles has over 25 years of experience in destination management and tourism. As Managing Director of Abbey in Ireland, she combines strategic vision with a passion for creating exceptional travel experiences. Vanessa is widely respected for her ability to build strong partnerships and deliver innovative solutions for clients worldwide. She plays an active role in shaping the industry’s future through thought leadership and collaboration. A proud advocate for Ireland as a premier destination, Vanessa loves showcasing the country’s rich heritage and culture. Outside of work, she enjoys discovering hidden gems across Ireland, exploring scenic landscapes, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Rebecca Brooks
Managing Director - UK

A graduate of St Andrews University with a degree in Modern History, Rebecca Brooks has worked in international inbound tourism since 2001 and now leads Abbey’s UK operations as Managing Director. She is a prominent industry figure, serving as Chair of the Scottish Tourism Alliance and UKinbound, and previously sat on the Visit Scotland board from 2015 to 2023. Rebecca was a member of the Scottish Government’s Tourism Recovery Taskforce and currently sits on the Westminster Tourism Council. Recognised for her contribution to the sector, she was named one of Scotland’s 100 Women in Tourism in 2018 and 2020 and received the UKinbound Chairman’s Award for Excellence in 2022. Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys exploring the UK’s diverse landscapes and cultural heritage.

Helen Murphy
HR Director

Helen Murphy has dedicated her career to the Abbey Group since joining in 1997, building extensive expertise across multiple areas of the business. Assuming the role of HR Director for Abbey Group in 2013, Helen plays a pivotal role in shaping the company’s culture and supporting its talented team. Her Abbey journey includes leading the French-Speaking Groups department for 9 years prior to being appointed Director of Group Operations, where she drove excellence in service delivery and operational performance. Helen’s deep understanding of our people and processes underpins her commitment to fostering growth and collaboration across the organization. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring Ireland’s natural landscapes and spending time with family and friends.

Tim Duffy
Technical Director

Tim Duffy has played a key role in shaping Abbey Group’s digital transformation, bringing deep expertise in technology and operations. As Technical Director, Tim leads the charge in online and digital innovation, ensuring seamless systems and exceptional service delivery. His career within Abbey spans roles in the FIT & Online team and Customer Care, giving him a comprehensive understanding of client needs and operational excellence. Tim’s focus on leveraging technology to enhance customer experience reflects his commitment to continuous improvement and forward-thinking solutions. Outside of work, Tim enjoys exploring Ireland’s scenic landscapes and discovering new ways to combine technology with travel.

Paula Gismondi
Contracting Director

Paula Gismondi has devoted more than three decades to Abbey Group, playing a pivotal role in the company’s growth and success. As Contracting Director for Ireland, Paula manages relationships with hotel partners across the country, ensuring competitive agreements and exceptional experiences for clients. Her extensive knowledge of the hospitality sector and trusted supplier connections have been central to Abbey’s reputation as a leading destination management company. Known for her collaborative approach and commitment to excellence, Paula continues to shape contracting strategies that deliver value and innovation. Outside of work, she enjoys Ireland’s rich culture and spending time with family and friends.

Teresa Gambino
Leisure Groups Director - Ireland

Teresa Gambino has cultivated a successful career with Abbey Group for more than 20 years, bringing expertise and leadership to the leisure travel sector. As Director of Leisure Groups, Teresa oversees operations and strategy for group travel, ensuring exceptional experiences for clients across diverse markets. Her journey within Abbey began in the Mediterranean Groups department, followed by senior roles in Business Development, where she drove growth in both Ireland and UK and strengthened partnerships. Teresa’s deep industry knowledge and client-focused approach continue to shape the company’s success in leisure travel. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring new destinations and embracing Ireland’s and UK’s vibrant culture.

Jamie Robertson
Leisure Groups Director - UK

Jamie is an experienced travel and tourism leader with over 25 years’ experience across destination management, leisure groups and accommodation strategy. He specialises in UK group travel, product development and commercial leadership, overseeing teams responsible for contracting, pricing, supplier partnerships and delivery. His background spans accommodation management, tour programme development, marketing, affinity partnerships and budget oversight, with a strong focus on quality, collaboration and commercially successful travel experiences. Outside of work, he enjoys football, running, embracing the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life.

Tom Sampson
Director of Digital Services

Tom is an IT and digital specialist with extensive experience driving technology-led transformation in the travel sector. He is a strong advocate for innovation, with a particular interest in AI, data and emerging technologies that enhance efficiency and customer experience. As Director of Digital Services, Tom leads complex digital projects, delivering scalable solutions that support commercial growth and operational excellence. When not focusing on technology he enjoys travelling around the world, cooking and watching a good film.

Greg Carew
Director of Conferences & Sales

With more than 15 years' industry experience, Greg leads Abbey's conference division, managing a team of 25 people working on national and international association conferences in Ireland, the UK and internationally. He brings extensive expertise in the areas of business development, event management and people management. His portfolio includes successful partnerships with some of Ireland and the UK's leading organizations.

Greg was Chair of the Association of Irish Professional Conference Organisers in 2024 and today continues to shape industry standards through his contributions to key business events and industry working groups. Beyond conferences, he volunteers with an organization called Golf4All, which introduces children with special needs to the game of golf.

Enda Hughes
Finance Director

Enda Hughes FCCA is an experienced finance professional at Abbey Group, with a strong background in accounting, financial management and business advisory. He brings a commercially focused mindset, helping organisations navigate complex financial environments and make informed, strategic decisions. Known for his practical approach and attention to detail, Enda partners closely with stakeholders to support sustainable growth, drive performance and deliver long-term value.

Mylène Campalto
Director of Leisure Sales, Europe & Latin America

Mylène Campalto leads Abbey's leisure sales for our European markets and Latin America, driving growth and strengthening relationships across the continents. With almost 20 years experience with the company, a deep understanding of travel and a passion for personalized service, Mylène promotes Abbey’s offerings to clients throughout Europe and South America. Her role focuses on showcasing experiences in Ireland and the UK, ensuring advisors have access to the best itineraries and insider knowledge. Known for her collaborative approach and commitment to excellence, Mylène enjoys meeting clients face-to-face and building lasting partnerships.
Outside of work, she loves exploring new destinations and appreciates quiet moments with a book paired with a nice cup of tea or a fine whiskey.

Colin Wynne
Director of Leisure Sales, North America

Colin Wynne brings over 20 years of experience in the travel industry and nearly 16 years with Moloney & Kelly, specialising in bespoke travel for North American clients. He works closely with leading consortia and host agencies, building long-term partnerships and keeping advisors informed on the latest experiences across Ireland and the UK. Known for his passion for connecting with people, Colin spends much of his time traveling throughout North America, sharing insider knowledge and inspiring advisors with unique itineraries. When not on the road, Colin enjoys honing his tennis skills or relaxing in his favourite retreat - a cozy pub on the Ballinskelligs Peninsula, perfectly paired with a pint of Guinness.
